We partnered with Kodiak to do a proof of concept in deploying long-haul autonomous trucking for our operations. This exploration we expect will help us move towards commercialization of such solution which in turn will improve operational efficiencies, safety, and sustainability.
As a leader in supply chain and logistics, we faced several challenges before deciding to test an autonomous long haul trucking solution. One of the most pressing industry issues is the ongoing shortage of qualified truck drivers. Finding and retaining skilled drivers for long-haul routes has become increasingly difficult. Additionally, safety is paramount in our operations. Accidents caused by driver fatigue, distraction, or errors can be tragic to human life. There is also the aspect of rising fuel costs, inefficient route planning, and environmental concerns. These challenges led us to explore the potential benefits of autonomous long-haul trucking solution.
