In e-commerce warehouses, in particular, it’s typical for multiple items to make up each customer’s order. Retrieving these items is a costly and time-intensive process, with pickers required to walk up and down aisles that often cover tens of thousands of square miles of warehouse space. Once the picking is completed, there’s the matter of replenishment—again, a process that requires hours of manual work. On top of that, the sheer number of warehouse personnel required to handpick items means that human errors inevitably arise, costing retailers time and money.
To address today’s persistent labor constraints and the potential for human error, we needed to create an automated retrieval solution that would deliver goods to the packing station. With e-commerce retailers under increasing pressure to deliver goods rapidly, we were confident that optimizing the process would not only reduce cost and error, but enhance efficiency and streamline overall operations, as well.
