Sensors and predictive analytics help to build a digital twin

Around-the-clock monitoring of sortation systems extends equipment life and increases production

1

The challenge

Integral to the operations of any warehouse, sortation systems automate the process of picking, palletizing, and packing items for shipment. They’re made up of many moving parts—from motors and gearboxes to belts and pulleys—in which faults occasionally arise. When the infrastructure works well, items can be moved quickly and accurately, reducing the need for manual labor and boosting productivity. But, when the technology malfunctions, operations can grind to a halt, costing businesses a lot of money.

We wanted to introduce technology that could help our network operation center (NOC) to proactively identify those defects before the system completely failed, allowing warehouse operations to continue smoothly.
