We built a vacuum-lifting robot solution to support the unloading of heavy cargo from containers, with the aim of improving the safety of our warehouses and overall productivity.
Every day our warehouse associates have to unload large, heavy boxes from containers. The weight of this cargo is too much for one person to manage safely. To unload a container, two associates have to work together.
But even when they work in pairs, lifting heavy cargo is a repetitive task that can be very physically challenging for operators on the warehouse floor. The work leads to fatigue, which slows productivity and increases risk of injury.
Remotely operated forklifts could be the answer to increased safety and working flexibility for Maersk warehouse workers.
